Art mood board1/25/2024 ![]() I can’t tell you how much I go back to my own pin boards, and those of the professionals I follow, to get inspiration for mood boards, branding content, and tone setting. If you’re struggling to set this tone… Hit. What do you want your ideal client to feel when they look at your branding? What tone do you want to set? If you’ve selected your images, and something still just doesn’t feel right… go back to those feelings. ![]() They also have images with a more modern mood, as compared to Pixabay and other sites of the same tenor. is my personal favourite right now, because they’ve actually begun curating image sets by colour, which is super helpful if you’re looking to create a set that’s cohesive and consistent. The images themselves though… where the hell do those come from? Well, when a business owner doesn’t have images for me to use, or hasn’t shared a Pinterest board with some inspiration, I consult stock image sites! There are far, far more resources there than you might think. We base these choices on their ideal client profile, and then I choose images that will appeal to their preferences. Is their client going to be more attracted to something bold? Or something minimal? Or something with elements of both? Something highly colourful, or a palette that’s more neutral? Instead of starting with the images themselves, I start with the feelings that my client wants their clients to have, as well as the aesthetic preferences of their ideal client from what they’ve told me. For these businesses, I flip things around, and source their images and colours backwards. In these cases, I have to start in a completely different place. They don’t have the same kind of visual content for me to pull into their brands, and I have to (GASP) start from naut. It makes their clients feel comfy in their online spaces – and it’s the basis of my work with creatives.īut… I don’t always get to cheat like this! Not every business I work with is a creative one, or at least in the sense that the photographers, artists, and videographers I work with are. The reason for this is obvious: creatives create, and therefore have visual content of their own that I can pull into their branding, and use for consistency.īasing the colours of a brand on the creative content that a business owner births, sets the foundation for building an ecosystem in which their work feels natural. And when I do branding design for creatives, I kind of get to cheat when it comes to brand boards. Mood boards are a type of visual representation that consists of a collage of images, samples, textures, colors, and texts that aims to convey a general idea or a mood about a certain topic. “You’re creating a series of logical decisions so that you know where you’re going to arrive.” - Chris Do on Stylescapes.Finding (the right) Inspiration for your Mood Board ![]() This is a very helpful tool and you can create 2-3 styles capes when you’ve got a final idea of the design directions you want to showcase to your client. You can learn more about these here. I learnt this technique from The Futur (they have a helpful course on becoming an expert on this found here), they even have a course on it here. They comprise of the typefaces, colour palettes, potential logo forms and other visual aids that can help a client understand the look and feel of the final result somewhat. A stylescape is defined as a design deliverable that aids with the presentation of the design direction you intend to take for a particular project. ![]() This is a mood-board with some mockups of the design direction that you intend to showcase to your client. This is a tool mostly employed by designers for their use or for the use of their teams.Ī stylescape can be seen as a kind of a bridge. It is flexible, the ideas explored in a mood-board are not final and allow room for changes in the final deliverable. A mood-board will address all the minute details that are needed for the completion of a project before the project has come together. Often, the clothes in one season’s line tend to have no visual correlation to another as they aim to showcase various styles that a person can adopt for that season. It differs from a look-book in that look-books comprise of multiple ideas which may or may not be unified under a theme. It is a collage of images, material samples, color palettes and sometimes descriptive words and typography that will guide you in your work. A Mood-board is design direction for one project. A moodboard, sometimes called an inspiration board, is a tool to help you hone your visual ideas at the start of a creative project.
